The free shuttle bus runs every weekend from Saturday on Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day. In the summer there aren’t enough permit spaces to handle demand and there are more non-hikers who would like to explore the beach or take photos of the lighthouse. The permits are only available for those who have children under 6 years of age, are 62+ years-old, or are physically disabled. Discovery Park Environmental Learning Center: Discovery Park is the largest park in Seattle, with 534 acres and over 11 miles of trails. There are only a handful of parking spaces at the beach and to use them requires a special permit from the Environmental Learning Center at the park.
